How IVF treatment in India works for international patients
Arranging fertility treatment abroad can feel daunting. Here is the typical pathway from first contact to returning home, so you know what to expect at each stage.

1. Enquiry and online consultation
You start by sharing basic details and any previous investigations. A specialist reviews your history in a video consultation, discusses likely treatment options, and gives an initial view on suitability and the number of visits you may need. Most of this happens before you travel.

2. Treatment plan and written estimate
Once your case is understood, the clinic prepares a personalised plan and a written, itemised cost estimate — covering the base cycle and any likely extras such as medication, ICSI, freezing or genetic testing. Compare estimates from more than one accredited centre.

3. Medical visa and travel
Most patients travel on an India medical visa or e-Medical Visa. The clinic can provide an invitation letter where required. You book flights around the treatment window agreed with your specialist. Requirements vary by nationality and change over time, so verify current rules before booking.

4. Arrival, monitoring and the active cycle
On arrival, you complete any remaining tests, then begin ovarian stimulation with regular monitoring. This is followed by egg retrieval, laboratory fertilisation, embryo culture and embryo transfer. Your coordinator helps with local logistics throughout.

5. The two-week wait and result
After transfer, there is a short waiting period before a pregnancy test. Depending on your plan, you may return home during this time and continue care remotely, or stay until the result.
