How an IVF cycle works
A typical cycle begins with ovarian stimulation using hormone injections over roughly ten to twelve days, with monitoring by ultrasound and blood tests. Mature eggs are then collected in a short procedure under sedation. In the laboratory the eggs are fertilised with sperm, and the embryos are cultured for several days. A selected embryo is transferred to the uterus, and any surplus good-quality embryos can be frozen for later use. A pregnancy test follows after a short waiting period.
